International Day of the Girl Child

MAKING DREAMS A REALITY

On this extraordinary International Day of the Girl Child (11 October), we acknowledge the enormous strides that have been made to address gender disparity, improve education and access to work for many girls and young women globally.

Yet, it is not enough and we join the many voices that are calling on world leaders, corporate leaders, you and me to accelerate investments and efforts towards initiatives that will empower girls in education, improve their access to basic sanitation, clean water and electricity. These are the initiatives required to girls and young women to go to school and equip them to engage in commercial activities that will support their communities and contribute to their economies of the future.

The Almas Jiwani Foundation’s mission is to support “With Her: A Skilled Girl Force”, by increasing its participation through educational initiatives and projects. It is launching The Young African Women In Leadership – Leading In The Digital Age, a digital learning and development programme across Africa.

Working with its partner The Learning Nuggets Company Ltd and sponsors and contributors globally, it aims to train girls and young women using mobile technology, online and virtual learning to develop and improve their skills and competencies in areas such as digital literacy, personal development, business skills, entrepreneurship and more. We look forward to the year of “With Her: A Skilled Girl Force”, and working with our supporters to make the dream come true for many girls across the globe.

Happy International Day of the Girl Child to all girls and women all over the world.
